Payroll & Super
Getting Pay Runs, Entitlements and Super Right Every Cycle
5 min read

Payroll errors are costly because they compound quietly. A small misclassification repeats every cycle until someone notices.
Start with the correct award and classification
Rates, allowances, penalties and loadings all flow from the award and classification you apply to a role. Confirm both when a person is hired and review them whenever duties change.
Track leave and entitlements continuously
Accruals should be visible in your payroll system at all times, not calculated when someone requests leave. Continuous tracking also makes your balance sheet provisions realistic.
Pay superannuation on time
Late super is not deductible and attracts a charge, so treat the quarterly deadline as a hard date. Reconciling super liability to payments each quarter prevents surprises.
Single Touch Payroll reporting should be lodged with every pay run, and finalised before the end of financial year deadline.
Correct set-up plus consistent reporting is what keeps payroll compliant. Fixing set-up once is far cheaper than correcting years of pay runs.
